WE'RE #1 AND OUT OF TOUCH!

Now that health care reform and Cap & Trade has been killed (for now) the President has moved on to other issues of national importance, those that effect us all and will determine the direction of our country for decades to come. He is taking on the BCS.

So there it was, right there in black and white. President BHO has ordered the Justice Department to look into the idea of forcing the NCAA to get rid of the BCS (Bowl championship Series) and replace it with a playoff system similar to what the NCAA does with it's college basketball program.

Before I go into the details and the background of this earth shattering dilemma, let me ask just one question.
DON'T YOU HAVE MORE PRESSING MATTERS TO ATTEND TO?

The BCS was set up to determine and insure that the two best teams in all of college football (formerly Division 1) play for the National Championship to determine the #1 team in college football. Using the weekly AP, USATODAY, New York Times and ESPN polls, five different computers, filled with schedules, strength of schedule, scores, access to not only one psychic, but a palm reader and a guy facing east swinging a rubber chicken over his head, each week after the fourth week of the season, the BCS comes out with it's poll. The top two teams at the end of the season play for the National Championship.

Let me 'spain this to you. I had this all broken down, but even my head was exploding, so I'll put it this way. There are times when you will have three maybe even four teams undefeated at the end of the season. Some won't even get a sniff at the title because of the conference they pay in, their "schedule is too weak." That leaves some people pretty mad. In a playoff system, you play until you loose and maybe your schedule was weak, but if you beat the big dawgs, then you can truely claim to be #1. Not like in 2008 when the Utah Utes went undefeated and weren't even considered for the National Championship.
Enter Pittsburgh's own Orin Hatch, the senator from Utah. He supports looking into an ant-trust lawsuit against the NCAA and the BCS. He supports the Justice Department looking into the possiblibilty of forcing the NCAA into a playoff system, in fact, he lobbied BHO for him to do just that. It's all because his team from Utah got hosed. It all goes back to whose ox is getting gored.

Orin is suppose to be a conservative. Orin, get with the program. I know that Utah got hosed. I feel your pain. Take some advice from Bubba Clinton,"Put some ice on it" and move on. Stick to your principles and just because your ox got gored doesn't mean that you need to abandon what you believe in, keep the government out of where it doesn't belong.

This is exactly what people are upset about. It's one of the reasons why people are up in arms and trashing politicians. Stop worrying about the BS and do some real work for the people. If you are going to tackle health care, than get together and do it sensibly. Work on things that really matter to people and not some headline grabbing issue that means nothing to the average person. People are sick and tired of the government spending money to study the sex life of a toad or who should play for the National Football Championship. Joe Six pack is loosing his job and right now, the BCS is the last thing on his mind.

At this point I would like to make the following statement. Anyone who knows me knows that next to my passion for hockey is my passion for college football. They are the two sports that I follow all year round and when the last check during the Stanley Cup Finals is given out, my attention turns full force to college football. I watch Gameday, go to the game, come home watch the Saturday night game, watch the Pac 10 and after midnight, watch the WAC. I love college football. I have been saying for years that there should be a playoff system. I have shouted it from the mountain top, I even have plans drawn up as to how they would do this!

Orin baby, BHO baby, as every teacher I have ever had in school use to say when we "strayed" off course and talked to a classmate; "If you need something to do, I am sure I can find you something."

THIS IS NOTHING FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO GET THEIR NOSES INTO. THERE ARE MANY OTHER PROBLEMS THEY NEED TO BE WORKING ON RATHER THAN FORCING THE NCAA TO GO ALONG WITH LOGIC.
There should be a college football playoff system. The arguments against a playoff system are weak at best. The bowls, colleges and NCAA would make more money than they ever could have dreamed about, but they need to be dragged to the water and there is no guarantee they will drink. It shouldn't be the government dragging them to the water, it should be the fans, alumni and the college community doing the dragging.

Only the government could screw this up more than the BCS already has.
